This secret weapon in your keto cooking is bone broth!
No, I am not simply referring to stock or basic broth. I am writing specifically about the use of bone broth in your cooking.
What is Bone Broth
Bone broth is simply, broth that is made from cooking down animal bones.
When you cook animal bones for a long duration, the marrow and nutrients from within the bones are added to your broth. More on these benefits and nutrients later.
When you think back to our ancestors, they used every part of the animal. They would eat all of the meat, including the organs. They would use the skin for numerous purposes. They would also use the bones.
Benefits of Bone Broth
Bone broth is extremely beneficial for the human body. There are nutrients that are found in the bones of animals that are critical for your overall health.
Some of the bone broth benefits include:
- Strengthened nails and hair
- Boosted immune system
- Improved joint health
- Reduced gut issues
Bone broth is rich in collagen and amino acids that are necessary for your body. In fact, it is the richest source of these nutrients you will find!
How to Use Bone Broth
The most basic way to consume bone broth is simply to sip it. Heat the broth and sip it like you would a hot tea or coffee.
You could also turn your bone broth into a bulletproof bone broth with numerous anti-inflammatory properties.
Bone broth is also a tremendous base for numerous recipes such as:
- Slow-cooking a roast
- Base for soups like chili
- Base for gravy
When you use bone broth in your cooking, your food will have such a rich flavor that you won’t get from anything else!
How to Get Bone Broth
The first and most obvious is to make your own, which is fairly simple. Just get some bones, beef or chicken, and cook them on low for 18-24 hours.
Of course, you may want to add some of your favorite ingredients like salt, pepper, spices, and onion. Add some water and don’t forget the Apple Cider Vinegar.
Cook in a stock pot on the stove or in the crockpot. It’s as simple as that!
The other option is to buy your bone broth already prepared. This is a great option if you aren’t up for making your own or just want to have some on hand.
The trick here is finding a good quality bone broth and I want to take the guesswork out of this endeavor.
